St. Michael's Parish Family Festival

Plans for St. Michael's Parish Family Festival in Newark are in full swing. A celebration of community spirit, the Festival will be held this year on Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7, on the grounds of St. Michael School at 320 S. Main St., Newark. The Festival Committee is being co-chaired this year by Bob and Robin Severson and Jerry and Karen Behlau.

Fr. Peter CliffordThe Festival will again offer a variety of favorite foods: hot dogs, hamburgs, Italian sausage and pizza. The ever-favorite Spanish meat pies will be offered again, along with arroz con pollo. There will be fried dough, as well as sno-cones. The dessert booth will once again offer pie, cake, sundaes, and ice cream. Soda, coffee, beer, and wine will also be available.

There will be rides for children of all ages. There will be games of varying levels of difficulty, from the "Fish Pond" to "Balloon Darts." New "Cork Gun" and "Soda Bottle Ring Toss" games have been added this year. The big hit last year, "Royal Flush," where a lucky throw dumps gallons of water on the victim sitting beneath the tank, will return this year, as well. Pictured is Fr. Peter Clifford, pastor of St. Michael's Church.

"Las Vegas Nite" will be featured on both Friday and Saturday nights. The wheels will open at 5 p.m., with the Poker and Blackjack tables opening at 7. This event is for the over-18 crowd.

New this year is the '97 Cash Raffle. A $20 ticket gives you 114 chances to win from $50 to the $5000 Grand prize. Drawings were scheduled to begin on May 17, with the Grand Prize being drawn at the Festival on Saturday night. Tickets are available from parishioners or at the Rectory.

Another lucky ticket holder will win a 1997 Geo from Mike Barnard Chevy. This drawing will be held on the Festival grounds Saturday night. Tickets are $3 (or 4 for $10), and are available at the Rectory. Both the Cash Raffle and car raffle tickets will be sold at the Festival.

To avert any weather-related disasters, all activities will take place under several large tents. It promises to be a fun-filled time for the whole family. Plan on stopping by.
