Letter carrier Vanderbrook retires

Gary VanderbrookGary Vanderbrook delivered his last letters and packages on Friday, September 26.

The lifelong resident of Newark began his postal career as a letter carrier at the Newark Post Office on January 14, 1966. Postmaster Jim Blandino said Vanderbrook has distinguished himself throughout his career; has always had genuine concern for the patrons on his route; and delivered the mail correctly and on time.

Many postal and former postal employees turned out to toast and roast him at a retirement party. Dan Bailey was the master of ceremonies.

Gary's retirement plans? Employment at Zappia Vending. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force before his employment at the post office.
