Local Girl Scouts spruce up the parks

Another Girl Scout year has begun, and a lot of plans have already been made to make this year fun and educational.

Girl ScoutsOne of the girls' favorite events is the annual overnight Lock-In at the high school. This year there will be swimming, crafts, games, music, and pizza.

Everyone's favorite, the annual "Girl Scout Cookie Sale," begins October 17 and ends October 31. Enjoy these delicious cookies and help support the local Girl Scouts.

This year, Newark Girl Scouts have decided to "Adopt the Parks." The troops will be divided up and assigned a certain park in Newark. Last Sunday, several troops cleaned up at Perkins Park. They found many interesting "treasures," including a number of golf balls.

This year's Newark Service Team includes: Service Unit Manager, Sherry Crawford; Program Consultant, Tammy Hand; Registration, Cindy Seavert; Cookies, Carolynn Roden; Troop Coordinators, Nancy DeWeaver and Donna Garrison; Public Relations, Cheryl Robson; Parade Consultant, Deb Cook; Secretary, Paula MacClurg; QSP (Magazines), Wendy Hill; Daisy Consultant, Diane Minger; Brownie Consultant, Loni Smith; Junior Consultant, Vickie Matteson; Cadette Consultant, Cindy Seavert; and Field Director, Melissa Martin.

If you know a girl who would like to be in Girl Scouts or an adult who would like to volunteer, phone Cindy at (315) 597-2739.
