Antique show at Lyons VFW

Grace Episcopal Church in Lyons is planning a major fundraising event for October 11. An Antique and Collectible Show will be held from 10 to 4 at the Lyons VFW, Route 14 South. This event will raise money for the historic Grace Church Restoration Fund.

The Church, built in 1838 and consecrated in 1841 is the only example of Tudor Gothic Revival architecture in Wayne County. The Greek revival house with 1870 and 1910 additions has served as a rectory since 1850 and the Parish House built in 1887 in the Queen Anne Style, is one of the few buildings of its type to be used as a parish hall. In the summer of 1994 the Grace Church compex received New York State Landmark status and is on the register of Historic Places.

Toys, advertising items, jewelry, prints and paintings, silver, china, glass, kitchenware, jugs, bottles, postcards, coins, World's Fair and political items and small antiques and collectibles will be offered by quality dealers.

As an added feature, several Wayne County antique dealers and collectors have agreed to set up, for display only, exhibits of historical interest to visitors to the show. Rick Kelly of Lyons will feature pieces of Ohmann, Jay Fisher, N. Clark and Cooperative (Lyons) stoneware. Postcards from the extensive collection of Winston Dobbin will be showcased; Dick Kelley will have a display of Clyde glass.

A raffle will be held at 4 p.m. and ticket holders do not need to be present to win. Some of the raffle prizes donated are: a Hotchkiss Peppermint bottle, gift certificates from antique shops, glassware, small mirror, mint Morgan dollar, vintage books, Ike-Nixon pennant, Lyons Coverlet and many more.

Refreshments and lunch will be available and parking is free. There is a $2 admission donation.
