Lyons School celebrates 75th The Lyons Elementary School is 75 years old! It was constructed in the early 20's after a fire destroyed the previous building. When it opened (as Lyons Union School) it housed Grades K-12 with about 900 students. Today the building serves grades K-6. To commemorate the festivities many student and community events are planned for Wednesday, October 22. An assembly for the students will be held with two special guests. Mildred Warren Cuddeback, who was a student at the previous building at the time of the fire and also a student of the "new" building, will answer questions that the students have. Also Buzz Stoetzel, a graduate from Lyons in the 1930's with a vast knowledge of local history, will answer student questions. A reception is being held from 2:30-3:30 for all past and present employees of the school. Anyone who used to work in the building is invited to attend. From 4-6 p.m. a reception is being held for community members. Former students and friends are invited to come and share their memories, walk through the building, enjoy displays of the past, and reminisce with friends.
