County briefs
By Donna Comella

When the Wayne County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, officials:

  • Heard a presentation about the Wayne County Quality of Life Coalition. The group began to organize over a year ago under the guidance of Mike Petrus, Work Experience Coordinator of the Newark Central School District. Petrus, who is also Immediate Past President of the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce, started the coalition to focus on the Route 31 corridor, but the group soon became to include other communities as well.

The group now includes members of the business community, school district representatives and government officials; and goals include fostering a "mutual respect and spirit of cooperation" among such agencies and organizations.

  • Discussed re-issuing bonds at a lower interest rate to save money on the Nye Rd. Health Complex. The board will also consider paying up to $750,000 to ready second floor space that may be leased to Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic.
  • Okayed an agreement that will allow the Lyons Heritage Society to occupy the Hotchkiss Building. Given several years ago to the county by Anne Hotchkiss, the historic building has been vacant, opening only for rare tours and special occasions.

In return for the building's use, the Heritage Society will attend to routine interior and grounds maintenance, cleaning, etc.

  • Changed next month's meeting date so several supervisors could get in some hunting time. Deer season opens Monday, November 17; supervisors will meet Thursday, November 20.
