From the supervisor
Our Town Hall is undergoing some renovations (pictured), the major part being the installation of new windows. The new ones are not only attractive but very energy-efficient. The Library is being included as well because it will be the future site of the Town Court/Meeting Room, and the architect's plans will blend the two buildings together to give the appearance of one building. The remainder of the work will include painting, landscaping, and new awnings. Also under construction will be the main entrance to the Town Clerk's office, which will be enlarged to accommodate a handicapped-accessible foyer. This will involve removal of the south wall of the current hallway, lowering the floor, and the elimination of the door to the Zoning office. There will be times during this week and next when the Clerk and the Building Inspector will be closed. Finally, you will see on the November ballot a proposition for a Local Law which will increase the term of the Town Supervisor from two years to four years, which has been endorsed by the Town Board. Currently this is the only elected position that is not a four-year term. The major benefit as I see it is that since the Town Supervisor is a member of the County Board of Supervisors, the four years gives the official more time to understand the workings of the County. It simply cannot be done in 2 years. The law would become effective at the next General Election in 1999; whoever runs at that time would be running for a four-year term. Many thanks to our Highway Department for the terrific paving job on Dormedy Hill Road! top of page Copyright © 1997 |
