At Lyons Center

The following programs/workshops are scheduled for September at the Lyons Community Center, Broad St.:

Kath's Facepainting: Grades K-4, Friday, September 12, 3:30-5 p.m. Will paint pictures on children's faces. (Watch for another session in October.)

Well-Woman Care for Adults: Tuesday, September 16, 7-8 p.m. Discussion will center on pelvic exams, pap smears, breast self-exams and safer sex.

Puberty for 5th graders: Wednesday, September 17, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Discuss physical changes in boys & girls, emphasizes that everything is normal, video shows body changes, changes happen at different times.

Alcohol and Advertising: Uncovering mixed messages in the media: Thursday, September 18 and Tuesday, October 7, 7-8 p.m. Videos (examples of commercials), learn how to understand true meaning of advertising, attitudes used in advertisements, messages commericals give us, uncovering mixed messages in the media, tv shows (how we are influenced by).

Let's Talk About Contraception, STDs and Safer Sex: Tuesday, September, 23, 7-8 p.m. Discussion will center on contraception, STDs and safer sex.

Sources of Lead Exposure and safe lead abatement: Thursday, September 25, 7-8 p.m. Will discuss issues, treatment of affected, Federal laws requiring disclosure of potential lead hazards, safe home renovation techniques, correct abatement procedures, identification of possible lead sources.

Adolescents and Puberty: Tuesday, September 30, 7-8 p.m. Discussion will center on puberty, adolescent sexuality, what to expect/how to cope.
