County Museum reopens

The Wayne County Museum is now open for the fall semester, through December 7, every Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from 10-3. At 21 Butternut Street in Lyons, in what was once the County Jail and Sheriff's House, the Museum displays artifacts and relics of area lore.

The galleries show products of nineteenth century industry and lifes - samples from children's games to mementos of the Civil War. The jail gallery features things much as the last prisoners left them.

A general store, a unique horse bridge from the original Erie Canal, and exhibits of early farm and craft life are on display in the barn galleries (open only while Daylight Savings Time continues).

The Wayne County Historical Society, which operates the Museum, again offers public programs this semester. To find out more about society programs and museum exhibitions, to volunteer as a docent or other program assistant, or to audition for a role in a dramatic reading, call (315) 946-4943 during museum hours or leave a voice-mail message.
