Tickets available for jail play

Readings of the dramatic ballad, "Spirits of Butternut Street," will be held at the Wayne County Museum, the old Wayne County Jail, at 21 Butternut Street in Lyons.

The event will take place from October 22 to 25 at 7 and 8:15 p.m., and on October 25 at 4 p.m.

Seating is limited; these readings take place in the cellblock where persons (spirits) who inspired the drama spent part of their lives. Audiences sit on benches once used by prisoners.

The Wayne County Historical Society, producer of the play, cautions that it is NOT suitable for children; although it contains no violence or crude language, it does refer to stark events in the lives of people, some of whom were at the edge of society. There are still opportunities for actors to appear in some of the performances, and for backstage crew.

Tickets are $7 each ($6.75 for WCHS members), and must be paid for in advance of the performances. For more information about tickets or to audition for roles please call the Society at 946-4943 during Museum hours, 10 to 3, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
