Bill VerPlank is home following a hospital stay. Joanne DeVries has returned to her home after a 3 week trip to Italy and the Island of Sicily. She saw many beautiful sights and enjoyed the gorgeous weather in the lovely countryside. On September 27 and 28, the Finger Lakes Llama and Alpaca Bazaar will be held at the Marion Town Park. This is the 2nd annual bazaar where there will be scheduled morning and afternoon seminars and demonstrations for your convenience. The vote on Phase Two of the school district renovation program ($4.8 million) will be October 1, 1-9 p.m. at the elementary school. Need info: Call 926-2300. Thanks...to all those who attended the delicious pig roast held at the United Church last Saturday. The fire department's fund drive and annual auction will be held on Saturday, September 27 at the Marion Fire Hall. Antiques, new merchandise and certificates, furniture, collectibles, baked goods and clothing and much more! 10 inside the Fire Hall. Happy Birthday to Margaret Curtis on September 23. Kay Oosterling of Newark was the guest organist at the United Church on September 21, adding to the beauty of the morning worship service. The annual Mission Pie Sale, at the United Church will be held on Friday, October 3 at Mark's Pizza. The Marion Supper Club is planning a pot luck dinner for Saturday, October 18. September 28, 1912 - William Snyder is suffering from severe bruises, scratches and a sprained wrist as the result of the team which he was driving running away. The bolt which holds the evelner broke letting the tongue slip out of the neck yoke, the team started to run and the tongue struck the road breaking it in two places; finding he could not control the horses under the circumstances, Mr. Snyder jumped, receiving his injuries. After nine years of research, George Shadman has completed the history of the 148th New York Volunteers. A Civil War unit which recruited from the Finger Lakes area of New York, the "Gallant 148th" served with General Benjamin "The Beast" Butler and the 18th Army Corps on the Virginia Peninsula from 1862 to 1865. On October 14, the Marion Historic Association will sponsor a program by Shadman titled, They Marched on Richmond, at 7 p.m. in the former Court offices next to the museum rooms.
