D.A. Healy honored by Humane Society

Wayne County District Attorney Rick Healy was recently named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Humane Society of Monroe County and Rochester.

Chief Humane Society Investigator Ronald Storm stated that Healy's office has aggressively prosecuted animal abuse in Wayne County. Investigator Storm told the audience that District Attorney Healy has personally gone to the scene of many animal-abuse cases and has personally prosecuted abuse in court.

Healy said that for too long, animal abuse has not been taken seriously by law enforcement. Studies show that people who beat or torture animals tend to abuse women and children as well.

Healy received the award at a dinner in Rochester.
