Newark AECC All-Star girls finish second

The Alex Eligh Community Center 5th and 6th grade girls All-Star team finished in second place in the Finger Lakes Division Championship Tournament, held at Waterloo, March 20-22.

aecc girlsThe team, ranked second in their division, won their first round game against ninth ranked Penn Yan, 29-8. Tiffany Collins led the way with nine points, Meagan Howell and Jitase Turner helped with eight points each, Brenna Howell had three points.

The girls won a tough second-round game against fourth ranked Canandaigua 40-36. Amanda Baker played well with 14 pts. Tiffany Collins hit again with nine, Meagan Howell added seven pts., Sylina Santell had six and Brenna Howell had four points.

On Sunday, number two ranked Newark met number one ranked Waterloo in the final round. The girls came on strong defensively, leading 16-11 at halftime. Waterloo came alive in the second half to outscore and defeat Newark 33-26. Leading scorers were Tiffany Collins and Meagan Howell with 8 points each. The team received a plaque which was presented to the Community Center.

The girls and their coach finish their season with a league record of 8-1 and an overall 12-4 record, including tournaments.
