Sheep Shear Fest

The Second Baptist Church of Walworth will host Sheep Shear Fest '98 on Saturday, May 9. The tents will open promptly at 10 a.m. The church is located at the corner of Church and Main Streets in Walworth.

Visitors will be able to bargain with the proprietors of the flea market, purchase food and drink, watch sheep being shorn each half hour by shearer Brian Dibble and hear commentators explain the process. They will be able to visit the petting zoo and watch weavers and spinners transform the woolen yarns into useful items.

There will be projects for the children, too, fresh baked goods for sale, Christian books and music for sale. The "Joyful Life Gospel Band" will be on hand to entertain with selections of contemporary Christian rock, traditional hymns and original songs of praise.

There will be no admittance charge this year. Instead, visitors are asked to make donations to the Walworth Food Pantry. Baskets will be in place to receive donations of non-perishable items and money.

This year, members are pleased to be offering six drawing items: a counted cross stitch depicting the lion and lamb stitched by Gwyn Bassage; a beautiful ceramic fox created by Joyce VanHaneghem; an original water color painting by Sue Sweet; a hand-decorated sweatshirt by Carol Fitzgerald; a hand-crafted wooden toy by Leighton Bel; and a hand-knitted woolen scarf made from yarn taken from one of last year's sheep. Tickets can be purchased from any church member
