Virts changes political parties

Village Trustee Tony Virts has indicated to a newspaper reporter that he has changed his political affiliation.

Virts, formerly a member of the Conservative Party, has officially registered with the Republican Party.

Virts was chairman of the Arcadia Conservative Party as well as an officer in the Wayne County Conservative Party. According to election law, Virts's change of party will not take effect until the day after the November election.

The change will affect the political make-up of the present village board. The current board consists of Mayor Pirelli, Trustees Blandino, and Virts, all Republicans; and Democrats Deputy Mayor John Palermo and Trustee Norm VanDemortel.

Trustee Virts, who has said that he will not be a candidate for re-election as village trustee, said Tuesday night that he switched parties to prepare to "run for a county office."
