County briefs When the Wayne County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, officials: - Listened to a warning that a commercial ambulance provider might be considering a move into the county. Marge Paliotti, an EMS provider who works with the Lyons Ambulance crew, told supervisors, "I believe in volunteerism, but I think it's time for a reality check." She suggested that supervisors talk with EMS providers, and take aim at a coordination of services. She said one option to be considered would be a county-wide municipal service, pointing out that there is already a working model of such a program in Lyons. Paliotti was asked to discuss the matter with the Public Safety and Health Committees, and possibly create a task force. - Authorized a Cultural Resource Investigation for the restoration of Erie Canal Lock E-56, and the Poorhouse Grocery (Route 31, across from Nye Rd.) in Lyons. Total County cost is not to exceed $2,120. Local group, E.R.I.E. (Erie's Restoration Interests Everyone), will contribute another $500 toward the research/study. - Forgave outstanding taxes for the Erie Canal Cultural Center (ECCC) in Lyons. The canalside building will house a variety of non-profit, educational and government offices, and has been called "the cornerstone of Wayne County's Canal Corridor Initiative." Taxes wiped from the books totalled $3,310. - Approved the sealed bid for the former Becken's Park property, Miller Rd., in the Town of Arcadia. The high bid of $50,000 was submitted by Roger Hubright. - Changed the next regularly scheduled meeting to Monday, September 21 at 9 a.m. Supervisors meet in the Wayne County Courthouse, Lyons.
