Williamson woman creates Santas

Betty Dennany Artisan Betty Dennany will again be returning to the Clothesline Art Show on Sept. 12 and 13. She resides in Williamson and creates one of a kind Saranac Santas and Placid Bears.

Dennany started This and That Designs in 1994 after moving to Williamson from Webster with her husband Bob and daughter Amandajean. Saranac Santas were created first as a gift to her mother, then as requests for more came in, the Santas became the main item she handcrafted from her Williamson home. The Saranac Santas have been exibited in both Lake Placid and Natural Bridge NY Art Gallerys.

Starting in 1997, Placid Bears were added to her handcrafted line of collectibles. Each Placid Bear is made from an old-fashioned style bear design. These handcrafted bears are made from heavy blanket style wools, imported Germain Mohair or from Vintage Furs. They all have German glass or antique shoe button eyes and are stuffed with polyfil and pellets.

She creates Santas or Bears from handed-down, often vintage fur coats.

This year, Dennany has donated two Placid Bears and a 24-inch Saranac Santa to the Advent House Hospice in Fairport.
