power stationPower outage
in Newark

Just after 10:30 this morning, about 2737 NYSEG customers were without power. Michael Williams of New York State Electric & Gas said that areas without power included East and West Union Streets, East and West Miller Streets, Colton, the Newark Plaza and some streets surrounding these areas.

NYSEG crews responded quickly to the substation on VanBuren Street, and switched customers to an alternate substation bank. By 11:42, over half of the power was restored, and the remaining customers were back by 11:57. Williams said that some lost power momentarily while the switch was being made.

The cause of the outage is not yet known.
