Happenings Winter concerts will be performed on December 14 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. Take note of the three decorated tables and the artwork created by students. There will be boxes for your donations for needy families and shut-ins, to brighten their Christmas. Bill and Nancy Bouwens of Orange City, FL are back home after two weeks up north. Nancy was welcomed at her home church, the Baptist Church in Palmyra, where she presented a ministry of music. She and sister-in-law Maude Finch took time to shop and enjoy lunches with friends. Bill went deer hunting with his brother, Jake, who lives in Palmyra. Billy and Jayne Johns of Connecticut spent time with family and dear friend Margaret Curtis, over the Thanksgiving weekend. DECEMBER 14, 1912: The 3:45 train on the Newark and Marion Railway became stalled before reaching Newark on Saturday afternoon and did not return to Marion until 5 o'clock Sunday morning. Passengers were brought home Saturday evening by S.B. Curtis and C. Roy Curtis. (We enjoyed the best ham loaf, ever, recently when we had family in for a meal.) The Compassionate Friends met on Saturday at the Kountry Kitchen to enjoy breakfast together and to bring each other up date on events. "Money isn't everything but, it sure keeps the children in touch." On Sunday, December 13, there will be the annual Christmas Program and Potluck Dinner at the United Church, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The program will start at 7 p.m. and will be intermingled with songs, poetry, Christmas messages, and the hanging of ornaments on the tree in the sanctuary. There will be Christmas Caroling Around The Town of Marion on Sunday, December 20. Church members and friends will meet at 7 p.m. at St. Gregory's. Everyone is welcome for an evening of family fun. Rod and Helen Adriaansen spent Sunday, November 29 with their with their son and family, Scott and Jennie and children Bradley and Kali in Elmira. Sue VanKouwenberg, who resides in Florida, has been spending time with her mother, Gerry, and her nieces and newphews. Mark and Beth Boerman and kids, accompanied by mother Carol Boerman and Ruth Depape, spent Thanksgiving basking in sunny Montego Bay, Jamaica. They had a typical American Thanksgiving dinner, toured the area and returned to Marion with lovely tans. The Town of Marion is seeking to hire substitute personnel who would be available to act as a crossing guard at the Marion Elementary School. This is a critical position, since North Main Street has a great deal of traffic, and the children need a responsible adult to stop traffic and safely cross the students. The hours are from 7:30 a.m.- 8:45 a.m., and 2:20 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. The pay rate is currently at $21.75 per day, with an increase anticipated for 1999. Applications may be picked up at the Town Hall anytime during regular working hours. Questions may be directed to Supervisor Monica Deyo at 926-4145. Bill and Barb DeWandel have returned from an exciting trip to Branson, Mo. They had a chance to see many of the shows that present entertainment for the visitors and tour groups Mag VandenBout spent her Thanksgiving day with family in Chicago, Jack and Mette and children, Ashley and Jared. During the week she visited with son, Rich and Marilyvn and children, Marissa, and Geoffrey who was home from Trinity Christian College. This is the first time in two years that the family had the opportunity to be together.
