World's dumbest criminal?

An accident Wednesday afternoon left a van in disrepair and the offending vehicle on the lam.

When Sandi Marcano arrived at what she believed to be a two-vehicle accident, she saw only the van and asked where the other vehicle was. Fire Chief Jim Murphy pointed to a red bumper and said, "There it is."

There was the red bumper, all right - along with an attached license plate. And just as all were convinced that the hit-and-run driver was one of the dumbest people in the world, State Police discovered that the plate did not match the vehicle description.

The accident occurred on Route 88 just north of the Village of Newark. Anyone who knows where the red car is should call state police at 315-331-3356.
