In Colonial days, housewives had to churn cream into butter, cut sugar from hard ten-pound loaves, sift flour through cloth and beat eggs with twigs in order to make cookies.

Bill and Barb DeWandel entertained their extended family with a Christmas Buffet on Saturday, December 19. The invitation read "Hearty Snacks and Desserts" and everyone did the eats justice! Young and old alike, exchanged gifts and it's all recorded for posterity on video tape.

The Bell Choir, under the direction of Janette Nevlezer, at the Second Reformed Church provided the Special Music at the December 20th morning service.

Dick Murphy, Sr., has returned to his home following a hospital stay.

DECEMBER 21, 1933 - A community event, the first of its kind in Marion, started by the Marion Fire Department will take place Sunday evening at 6 in Firemen's Park. There will be a 30 minute service, a lighted Christmas tree, candy, popcorn and oranges will be given to the children.

Need a last minute gift? Miracle Milk Bath - 2 cups salt, 2 cups baking soda, 2 cups non-fat dry milk. Mix all ingredients. Store in airtight container up to 1 year. To use: Add 1 cup of mixture to bath water.

Sports -The boys Varsity Basketball team won their first game of the season Dec. 15, 64-42 over Gananda. Brian Roegiers led the scoring and Justin Hutt grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Marion Wrestling team beat Bishop Kearney 34-36 to up their record to 2-0. Getting a win for Marion was Adam Offen and getting a pin for Marion were Andy Hartnagel, Jamie Rentland, Dave Schneider, Joe Alampi and Kevin Venable.

The boys Varsity Basketball team defeated Clyde-Savannah 75-66. Brian Roegiers, Justin Hutt and Al Sargent led the offense but it was a very good team effort.

The boys Varsity basketball team lost their second game Friday night to Aquinas by a 66-49 score. Justin Hutt led the Knights with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Marion 43, Gananda 32: Sarah Johnston scored 16 points and Mary Lanzone and Carre Barber both had eight points the visiting Black Knights (2-4, 1-3).

The Marion Wrestling team suffered their first loss of the year to South Seneca. Getting a pin for Marion was Dave Schneider.

The Indoor Track team did a good job. Several athletes qualified for sectionals. Rebecca Lewis was 1st overall in both the 1500m and 3000m.

May the wonderful feelings of Christmas stay with you long after the gifts are unwrapped, the tree is taken down, and the ornaments are stored safely away. May the once-a-year joy of Christmas return to you in memories throughout the year, each time tugging at your heartstrings... each time bringing a smile.
