Dragons excel at Gold Junior Olympics

The Newark Swim Club placed 8th out of 44 teams at the '98 USA Niagara District Gold Junior Olympics.

The Dragon club qualified 12 swimmers for the meet but placed higher than many of the larger city clubs.

The meet was held December 10-13 at the University of Buffalo Alumni Area natatorium. The Niagara District covers the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Southern Tier areas of New York State and represents approximately 5500 swimmers. Of that number, 461 swimmers qualified and participated in the Gold meet by swimming times at previous USA sanctioned events. USA is the sanctioning body for the US Olympics.

Grant Liddicoat, 10, finished third overall in the individual point category in the 9 & 10 age group.

Jeff Wood, 11, finished third overall in the individual point category in the 11 & 12 age group.

EJ Amyot, 16, who practices with the Dragons but swims unattached, finished first overall in the Senior Men's division. His times are also included below.

Swimmers individual times follow. If two times are given, that means the swimmer qualified for the evening finals by finishing in the top 16 in the mornings preliminaries which qualified them for the finals or a consolation event in the evening.
