Newark Lutherans welcome new pastor

The Rev. William F. Mugnolo was installed as the new Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark, at a special afternoon service on February 1. He succeeds the Rev. William Bartels who retired in July 1997 and Dr. Louis Jasper, who served as interim pastor for seven months.

Pastor Mugnolo, the son of Anthony and Barbara Mugnolo of Rush, was born on July 9, 1959 in Baltimore. He grew up in Northport, NY, Kinnelon, NJ, and then in Atlanta, GA where he graduated from Marist High School in 1977. He then went on to college at Furman University in Greenville, SC, where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science.

Upon graduation from university, Pastor Mugnolo moved with his family to Rochester, where he worked for his parents, owners and operators of the Arby's Roast Beef Restaurants of Greater Rochester.

In 1984, he became a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Rochester. The following year, he entered Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada. He graduated in 1990. As part of his seminary training, he served his vicarage (internship) year at Hope Lutheran Church in Hudson, FL (1988-89).

From August 1990 until January 1998, Mugnolo served as pastor of the Martin Luther/Salem dual parish in Punxsutawney and Troutville, PA.

On October 1, 1993 he married Sabra Jayne LeClaire of Sodus, at a ceremony held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark. They were blessed with a daughter, Emilia Ellen, on May 25, 1996 and they are expecting their second child at the end of May.
