Club hosts Civil War reenactor At its February 12, dinner meeting (on Abraham Lincoln's birthday), the Newark Lions Club was treated to a presentation on Civil War medicine by Les Buell. A teacher at Williamson Middle School, Buell is involved in Civil War reenactments and is a member of the Association of Civil War Surgeons. His presentation that evening included the changes in treating wartime casualties from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War. Supplementing Buell's presentation was an extensive display of Civil War era medical instruments and utensils. In addition, Buell came dressed in an authentic Civil War uniform. Fture Lions programs include presentations from the Sheriff's K-9 Corps, local businessmen, and a Girl Scout leader who accompanied a troop of Girl Scouts on a trip along the Oregon Trail. Lions Club meetings are held the second Thursday of each month for dinner at the Quality Inn and the fourth Thursday of each month for lunch at Danny Boy's Hometown Restaurant.
