Arcadia organizational meeting held
By John Zornow

The Arcadia Town Board held its annual organizational meeting on January 2. Newly elected Supervisor Dominic Bartucca announced appointments and committee assignments for 1998.

Councilman Michael DeJohn, who has been a member of the town board since 1973, was appointed Deputy Supervisor to replace Bill Tanea, who was not re-elected last November. Joan Grambo was appointed to the dual roles of Clerk to the Supervisor and Budget Officer.

In other appointments, Newark attorney David Saracino was named as town counsel for the year at a rate of $100 per hour. Daniel Pullen was named as Deputy Highway Superintendent, for which he will receive $500 in addition to his regular duties. A resolution was approved that Supervisor Bartucca be authorized to oversee the employment of all extra clerks, as needed by departments. The rate of pay for extra hires was established as $6.50 to $7 per hour.

Diane Allerton was reappointed deputy town clerk with additional duties of filling in as town clerk, tax receiver, and in the code enforcement office.

Standing committees were designated by Supervisor Bartucca as follows:

  • Landfill/Water District: Gary Grant/Mike Diamond
  • Highway: DeJohn/Diamond
  • Legislation, Personal, Salary: Diamond/Brenda Westcott
  • Planning, Building, Grounds: DeJohn/Grant
  • Assessments & Insurance: DeJohn/Westcott
  • Public Safety, Health, Elections and Zoning: Grant/Westcott

No action was taken concerning the appointment of the town's designate as official engineering firm. This is to be discussed at the January 13 regular meeting.

A motion was made approving the concept to create an advisory council made up of six-nine members of the community. More details of the proposal will be forthcoming at a future meeting.

Bartucca was given permission for himself and the budget officer to attend the Association of Towns meeting in Rochester next week, at a cost not to exceed $300.
