Forum on Chimney Bluffs

Wayne County residents are invited to participate in a public forum designed to solicit input for limited development and recreational use of the Chimney Bluffs State Park lands, located in the town of Huron. The meeting will be held at the Huron Town Hall, located on Lummisville Rd., on Wednesday, January 21, at 7 p.m.

"It is our goal to initiate and develop recreational activities, which will highlight the natural resources of northeastern Wayne County," stated Jim Coulombe of the Wayne County Planning Department. "Chimney Bluffs is a valuable and underutilized resource which could attract residents and visitors alike."

Informal meetings, involving officials of the Town of Huron and the Wayne County Departments of Planning and Tourism, have identified the need to initiate a planning process that involves public input. Topics under discussion include development of a multi-use trail system at the site; off-road parking areas; interpretative signage.

The Chimney Bluffs State Park was created in 1967, but has not been developed by the State.

The Chimney Bluffs Development Steering Committee is inviting government officials, members of outdoor clubs, business leaders and the general public to take part in planning process.
