martin luther king marchersKing Celebration
in Sodus

The Martin Luther King Day Celebration was held Monday at United Third Methodist Church in Sodus. Pictured are men and women walking from the Sodus High School to the church. The Celebration sponsors were WARE, Martin Luther King Commission, and Wayne County Ministerial Alliance.

kids in costumeSpeakers included the Rev. Jimmie Hickson, Rev. King Lewis, Janice Comer, Rev. Frank Comer, Diane Alexander, Ernestine Brown, Rev. Earlvin Greene - the keynote speaker, Rev. Vera Alford, and Rev. Small.

Kalonda Greene sang the Black National Anthem, and the Martin Luther King Choir sang other songs of inspiration.

Connie Range of Newark presented awards to three students who wrote essays, using the theme "The Groove That's in the Heart." The girls are Janet Popolito of Sodus, LaTanya Parker of Newark, and Rakia Greene of Lyons.

Range worked with children in grades 3 to 6 to do a presentation called "The Dream Is..."

2 happy childrenThe youths included Sharonda Parmer, Albert Lopez, Tiffany Collins, Amanda Jackson, William Collins, Shinera Crockton, Jerel Reid, Jessica Vasquez, Kurtis Porter, Deija Reid, Tiffany Jackson, Jerrod Crockton, Talitha Parker, Ebony Parmer, Jessica Vasquez, Amber LaPatra, Ashley Hills and Corey Jackson. Some of them are pictured, as are two happy children in the congregation.

A dinner for everyone followed the ceremony.
