Ready for Cub Scout camp?
By Melissa White

Summer Cub Scout Camp will begin again in a few weeks. Camp begins the third week of July and kids at camplasts the entire week. The boys learn many skills through the week and have a great time while doing so.

In many cases, the boys do requirements necessary to receive badges and to move up to the next step of scouting. There are many different areas set up for each group to participate in. There is an area of Nature where boys learn how identify different plants - good and bad.
The camp has a nurse who teaches them first aid and CPR. There is also an area where the boys learn different types of sports.

kids at campThe camp last year was at Demolay in Sodus Point, deep in the woods. The counselors' children are taken care of right at the camp and enjoy special events just as their brothers do. Last year, the Tag-A-Longs, as they are fondly called, made ice cream the old fashioned way; made leaf prints with blueprint paper, played games, did crafts and . . . visited the nurse's tent, where they took turns bandaging each other up.

The Scouts and their Counselors have a wonderful time while learning many important skills. I bet they can't wait till camp begins again this year to see what new and exciting things they'll experience. I'll be there as the Tag-A-Long Leader, so I'll be able to keep you posted.
