The Pioneer Gas Engine Show, July 24-26 convenes at the Marion Town Park. You will see shingles made, wheat threshed, stones crushed, a tinsmith, and an antique tractor pull on Friday and Saturday evenings. Antiques, flea markets, and refreshments for your pleasure. A town parade is scheduled for Saturday. Dairy Fitting and Showmanship Class, open to 4-H members, is scheduled for July 11 in Marion. The clinic instructs on how to groom and show dairy cattle in a hands-on day with dairy calves. Marion Ambulance is presenting Band-Aid, featuring Ruby Shooz. Gates open at 5:30 next Saturday, July 11, at the Town Park. Music will be 8-midnight. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for under 12, and kids under 5 are admitted free of charge. This event will benefit the purchase of emergency equipment for the ambulance team. Thanks to all of you who helped to make the chicken barbecue at the United Church, such a success. Susie May, daughter of Julie and Jeff Herman, received the Sacrament of Baptism at the First Reformed Church on June 21. Proud grandparents are Edwin and Dorothy Bliek and Wayne and Millie Herman. "Happy 16th Birthday" to Kelly and Amanda Leeuwen on June 28. Nathan DePoint provided the Ministry of Music at the morning worship service on June 21 at the Second Reformed Church. Congratulations to Courtney Lynn Vail and Mark Welch who were married on June 20 in Colorado Springs. Congratulations to Allyson Richards and Joseph Quader who were married on June 20 at Pearce Memorial Church in Chili. On Tuesday, August 4, there is going to be a bus trip to the Thousand Islands with luncheon buffet at Pine Tree Point. Following is cruise of the Islands and a visit to Boldt Castle. The cost of $51 is due by July 10. There will be a pick-up at the Nutrition Center at Palmyra at 8 a.m. and the return will be at 8:30 p.m. Call Virginia Lupold at 597-4372 for information and reservations. Thanks to all of the students in Mrs. Colway's Class who signed their names to the mammoth "thank you" poster I received. New members were welcomed into the United Church on June 21. Lealey Bush by confirmation; Shari McKay, Melissa Wilson, Jeremy Hares and Jared Schutt by baptism; Helen Engleson and Philip Meyer by transfer of letter. JULY 20 1953 - The Misses Dorothy and Betty Dean, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dean, left Friday by bus on the first leg of their journey to Alaska to spend the summer as counselors at a Girl Scout camp.
