Fun all summer at the Lyons Library

Registration for the summer reading program is over, but there are still plenty of fun things scheduled at the Lyons public Library.

There will be two Monday craft programs, one for ages 3-7 at 1 p.m., and another for ages 8-18 at 1:30 p.m., starting July 6 and running for six weeks. Story hour for children ages 3-5 will start Thursday, July 9 at 11 a.m. and runs for six weeks.

Wednesday is FunDay at the library. All events for Fun Day take place at 1 p.m, and are open to all ages, except for the YA Scavenger Hunt which is for ages 12 and older. The schedule for Fun Day is as follows:

  • July 8 - Sidewalk Chalk Drawing
  • July 15 - Sheriff's Deputy Carr and his K-9 companion Quigley
  • July 22 - Bubbles the Clown Magic Show
  • July 29 - Tie-Dying
  • August 5 - Solve It Day
  • August 12 - YA Scavenger Hunt

Once again, the library will be sponsoring its 3rd annual YA Writing Contest for ages 12 to 18. Blank entry forms maybe picked up at the library. Entries must be turned in between July 21 and July 31. Winners will be announced August 5.

The library will also be running a series of YA Specialty Programs for ages 12 and older. All YA Specialty programs will take place on Fridays at 1 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

  • Fri., July 10 - Game Day
  • July 17 - T-shirt Painting
  • July 24 - Cooking
  • July 31 - Make-Up Day
  • August 7 - Game Day
  • August 14 - Origami

The Awards Ceremony, featuring Marianne Hunt, storyteller, will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 11 a.m. For more information on these programs, call the library at 946-9262.
