Earlier today, I looked out my window and noticed the corner of
Sergeant and Carlton Streets, Sodus, had a large puddle of water running along the side of
it. I thought nothing of it - just that someone had been watering their lawn and perhaps
forgot about it. It was when I tried using the water in my house that I got worried.
I gathered up my paper, camera and assistant (my son) and we followed the water trail
up to Main Street. At first, all we found was a machine pumping out the water and a busy
flagman. The flagman, Cody Ashlaw (sorry if it's misspelled...the machine was noisy) told
us about the water valve.
The Town truck went down Carlton Street and pulled into a driveway. The Village
Superintendent, Kelley Allen, informed us that the town has laid 4,000 feet of new curbing
and is getting ready to grind and resurface Main Street. They were doing preventive
maintenance before they did all the work finishing the road. Apparently, they were
changing a valve and other valves decided not to cooperate. Even though it looked bad, and
I'm sure caused a headache for many, it's better the problem was found before the
re-surfacing was completed.
The neighbor children decided to take advantage of the little pond and enjoyed the
extra water.
Thanks to Kelley and Chad for being so cooperative. |
