Woodhill expansion begins

The J. A. Gaudino Company has started construction of 56 luxury two-bedroom apartments in the Village of Newark. "The Glen at Woodhill" is located off 840 Peirson Ave. at the existing Woodhill Apartments and Townhouse site.

The Glen will consist of seven two-story, garden-style apartment buildings with eight apartments in each building. Three buildings are currently under construction and due to be completed in several months. The remaining four buildings will be completed in the spring of 1999.

The 1000-plus square foot apartments will feature many amenities exclusive to luxury housing, including central air, security entrances, vaulted ceilings and private covered balconies. Additionally, the 34-acre wooded site has a swimming pool, playground and basketball court. The new apartments will be handicapped adaptable.

The Woodhill Apartment & Townhouse site, slated as a "planned community" in the 1970's, was to include several hundred apartments, townhouses and single family homes. However, construction stopped with the completion of only 82 townhouses and 48 apartments. The J. A. Gaudino Co., which owns seven other complexes, purchased the property in 1987. This expansion of apartment homes is a step toward completing the original vision of the Woodhill community.
