| Just two weeks ago was the big day for Mr. Heagle's pool party. The Sodus teacher
invited all the students (and their parents) from his last year's class to come. With
food in one hand, a towel in the other, lots of sunscreen and excitement, students
arrived. The kids spent hours playing in the pool and cooling off, while parents watched
with envy. Mr. Heagle cooked hots and hamburgers for lunch. Refreshments served included
many desserts, watermelon and even slush pops for that extra cool before getting back into
the water. Many parents joined the students in the pool after lunch. (You can only watch
for so long when it's 90-plus degrees.)
It wasn't just the students (and parents) who were enjoying themselves, though - Ian
Johnson brought his retriever puppy, Scout, to play with Mr. Heagle's Jack Russell
Terrier, Casie. The pups played until they wore each other out, then were found lying next
to the ice chest to cool off.
Mr. Heagle's Greyhound found other ways to amuse himself. Being older, and more
knowledgeable, he knew that just lying in the shade works fine, though it was difficult to
find much of a breeze.
Just before it was time to go home, the kids all had a water balloon fight with the
toughest balloons I've ever seen. The balloons took all kinds of abuse and just wouldn't
break. Finally, the kids just wore them out.
The picnic was a lot of fun and the pool was, of course, the hit of the day. Thanks to
Mr. Heagle for inviting everyone to his beautiful home. See you in September ... |
