There's still time to call your family members and friends and get a team together to walk (or run) at the 18-hour RELAY FOR LIFE held at the Palmyra Fair Grounds from 6 p.m. tonight (July 31) until noon on August 1. All money received from those sponsoring the relay teams will stay in Wayne County to help those who have contacted cancer. A highlight of the event is the beautiful luminaria service held after dark to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost their battle against cancer. See you there!

Monica Deyo sent info about the Marion-Walworth Road sidewalks, which are part of the proposed Route 441 improvements scheduled for the year 2000. The state DOT turned to the Wayne County Highway Department for the final decision, since Wayne owns the road. The County Highway Committee and the County Highway Superintendent determined that the sidewalks will remain a part of the project. Their decision was based on the fact that if the State's extensive studies show that sidewalks are a necessary part of multi-modal transportation, then they are to be installed.

Drainage work has been completed for the section of the ditch which runs from Union Street to Pembroke Drive and on towards Smith Road. The addition of culverts there should help the storm water run more freely out of the hamlet in the spring or in the event of an unusual amount of rain, as we are having now.
