Weathering the storm
Fierce winds and heavy rains hit the area yesterday, downing power lines and age-old
trees. With a tornado watch in effect, residents tried
to stay out of the weather that brought wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour and
intermittent downpours. Thunder and lightning paraded through the skies all day.
Mark DeCracker of Lyons caught this threatening, but beautiful sky.
By this morning, the sky was gray and the
winds calm, as residents cleared their lawns of branches, tree limbs and other debris.
Sandi Marcano grabbed a shot of this 100-year-old tree that was uprooted at the Schwab
residence on Wilson Street, Newark.
