An old-fashioned mortgage burning took place Wednesday evening at Marbletown Schoolhouse.

Arcadia Historical Society members applauded the successful fund drive which paid off, in one year, the $30,000 purchase price of its museum building. The museum is in the former Christian Science Church and Reading Room on High Street.

"We are pleased and proud that the people of Arcadia, particularly the children, are now assured of a place they can visit to learn of the history of this area," said AHS President Chris Davis. "We owe many thanks to our members, others in the community, fraternal organizations and especially the C.H. Stuart Foundation for their gifts, which made this dream possible."

The second and third phases of the fund drive will continue to raise an additional $10,000 to $20,000 for building renovations, equipment, etc. Members will also create an endowment fund to assure continuance of the museum and other AHS assets.

The Society hosts a series of events during the year. The next will be the Strawberry Social at the Marbletown Schoolhouse, Saturday June 20, from 1 to 5 p.m. A strawberry-ice cream-shortcake will cost $2.50. The community is invited.
