Newark second graders cruise lake We Went on a Cruise by Mrs. Hoffman's second grade students at Lincoln School On Monday, June 15, Mrs. Hoffman took us to Canandaigua Lake for a ride on the family
boat, the Eleanor Gray. Mrs. Hoffman's husband and his father, Captain Gray, take people
on tours of Mr. Hoffman drove the boat. He told us about many things. The boat is 53 feet long. He told us about Squaw Island and how the Indians put the squaws on the island to protect them from the soldiers. He told us safety rules for riding in their boat. He told us what flares are for and showed us a flag that is used in case of trouble. He showed us a life preserver. He told us about buoys and what they mean. He answered our questions. He told us that the biggest fish caught in the lake was 22 pounds. Mr. Hoffman gave each of us a chance to steer the boat and to honk the horn. Some of us made the boat go faster or slower. When we got back to shore, Mr. Oberdorf read us a story by a pond, called "The Pirate in the Bottle." He gave us each something to hold from a treasure chest, as he read the story.
We all liked our field trip. We had fun taking turns driving the boat. We all picked up goose feathers. Caleb Ouellette liked sitting at the front of the boat. Amanda said, "I liked beeping the horn. Beeping the horn made me laugh so hard." Casey VanWinkle liked seeing the ducks. Valiscity O'Neal liked it when the boat went fast. We all liked our year end picnic. Copyright © 1998 |
