Raptors are on top

Last Thursday night, Troy Davis threw eight innings of shutout ball, and surrendering four hits. The Newark Raptors (16-3) defeated the Geneva Knights 5-0 in front of 485 people at Colburn Park.

Davis (1-2) struck out seven and walked just one Knight.

Ray Goirigolzarri laced a two-run triple in the second to stake the Raptors to a 2-0 lead. Darin Kinsolving and Damian Stambersky added RBI singles to move the Raptors to 3-1 in the season series against Geneva (10-7).

On Sunday, Donny Hood hit a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth, that led the Newark Raptors to a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Wellsville (8-13). Newark rallied from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the seventh on singles by Roderick Eustatius, Billy Dunn and Donny Hood.

Dunn and Hood had three hits and two RBI's apiece for Newark (17-5) which snapped a two-game losing streak. Saxon Berry pitched the final inning and two-thirds to pick up his first win of the year.

The Raptors play a double-header tonight at Colburn Park against the Geneva Knights. The rained-out game of June 16 picks up tonight at 5 p.m., with Game 2 to follow.
