Lyons Lay Preachers to be certified Sunday

The First Presbyterian Church of Lyons will honor two lay preachers during the 10 a.m. service on March 29.

Carol Wilson of Alloway and Isabelle Hartman of Lyons will be certified as Lay Preachers for Geneva Presbytery at the March meeting in Watkins Glen. Hartmann and Wilson had to complete course work which ran over a two-year period. There were 20 sessions (once a month) that met from 3-8 p.m. The seminars included the following: Preaching, polity, theology, spirituality, Bible Content, Church history, worship and church & community. The sessions were taught by both seminary professors and pastors from the area. For their final "exam", Hartman and Wilson had to plan a worship service and preach. The two also had to be interviewed by representatives from the Presbytery's Committee on Ministry.

The First Presbyterian Church of Lyons located at 11 Queen Street at the corner of Broad Street is handicapped accessible. Child care is provided for infants and toddlers. A fellowship hour will follow the service. For additional information, please call the church at 946-4723.
