Newark Rose Committee announces plans The Rose Capital Committee of Newark is getting into high gear for the spring season. Committees have formed to plan for the Mother's Day Plant Sale, a Membership Drive, the Rose Parade on June 14, and summer planting activities. The Rose Committee is planning to keep the cost of the plants low at $5 for the Mother's Day Plant Sale. This year they will be offering two hardy mums for $5, in addition to the popular miniature roses. So keep your eyes peeled for school children offering this Mother's Day gift deal or call 331-2993 to inquire about the products or place an order. The Rose Parade on June 14 is planning to combine with the Flag Day Parade sponsored by the Elks of Newark. By joining forces, the Rose Committee and the Elks hope to offer the Newark Community and visitors one large parade rather than two smaller parades. The Rose Committee and the the Elks will also be working with Niewarkfest, which is planned for the weekend of June 12 through 14 in order to coordinate activities. The Rose Committee is also planning a Spring Membership Drive. Membership starts at $10 for individuals. The Rose Committee will be offering a mature Rose Plant to the members who apply on a first come first served basis. The supply of rose plants is limited to approximately 100, so watch for advertisements in the local papers to learn how to join this worthy community cause. For information about membership or to learn more about the mission of the Rose Committee call 331-2993 and ask to speak with Emily or Lou. The next meeting will be April 9 at 7 p.m. at Rochester Community Savings Bank in the basement community meeting room. Anyone is welcome to attend. Copyright © 1998 |
