The Center will find its home in the former J.L. Hammet building on Water St., Lyons. The ECCC will include space for the Lyons Public Library, The Wayne County Council for the Arts, Literacy Volunteers, and others. Situated on the banks of the Erie Canal, the 42,000-square-foot building will also lend itself as an anchor for a promenade along the historic banks. "Peg Churchill has demonstrated her deep commitment to the mission of ECCC and has the experience needed to successfully network the organization's projects with other agencies and organizations in the four-county region," commented Joe Marinelli, ECCC president. From 1990-97, Churchill was a council member on the Walworth Town Board, She served as supervisor from 1994-97. During her tenure on the board, she was a leader in the development of the town's master plan. She was closely involved in the planning and overseeing of recreation programs and the design/construction of the town complex, acting as liaison to the architectural and construction team. Tom Chappel of Newark was approved as the facility manager. In addition, to the responsibilities connected with the renovation of the building and tenancy, Chappel will also oversee maintenance. Chappel had been serving as Project Manager for the Cultural Center. In addition to his experience in construction and renovations, Chappel is skilled in photography. He knows the physical possibilities of a building such as ours and has the experience to successfully oversee the changes we have planned." Both are part-time positions. Copyright © 1998 |
