'Gypsy' at Gates Hall

"Curtain up, light the lights, we've got nothin' to hit but the heights," begins the popular Jule Styne lyrics to "Everything's Comin' Up Roses" from Gypsy.

Cynthia Cuddeback leads a cast of 50 as Madame Rose in the Gatesinger production which opened March 20 at the Gates Hall Theatre, Pultneyville. Cuddeback's trained voice, stunning period costumes, and understanding of the role sets the tone for the local theatre company's complex production.

The show features singing and dancing newsboys, farmboys, Toreadorables, Hollywood Blondes, burlesque dancers and Minsky's showgirls. Caroline the Cow dances a soft shoe; and costumes of the burlesque dancers glimmer, flutter, twinkle and blast as Mazeppa (Danielle Ellis), Electra (Sarah Gordinier) and Tessie Tura (Ally Clarke) show young Gypsy (Sara Williams) the ropes in "You Gotta Get a Gimmick."

For tickets for March 27-28, call 589-9377.

Nathan Williams is the lighting director and Elaine Williams is the costume designer.
