Fishing contest planned
"We wanted to create an event which would appeal to a wide variety of anglers. The 5 GrandSlam Fishing Contest and the Merchants Challenge does just that. It combines the best of lake, stream and canal fishing activities for Wayne County," stated Marjory Allen Perez, Director of Wayne County Office of Tourism. In the 5 GrandSlam Fishing Contest anglers are challenged to reel in a fish in each of the following species: Coho and Chinook Salmon; Lake, Brown and Rainbow/Steelhead Trout. The Merchants Challenge to the angler is to bring in a fish in each of the following species: largemouth and smallmouth bass; perch; northern pike and walleye. Participants will be awarded points for each fish entered and additional points according to weight. The contest is divided into two divisions - Adult and Youth. Cash prizes, merchandise and trophies will be awarded in Adult Division. Merchandise and trophies will be awarded in Youth Division. Adult Registration is $20 individual; $48 for a group of 4 adults ($12 each). Youth Division is Free. There will be a Grand Prize for each part of the contest. To be eligible for the Grand Prize, the angler must have entered all five species in either the 5 GrandSlam or Merchants Challenge and accumulated the largest number of points for that group of anglers. The balance of the prizes will be determined by total points.
