Pledge challenge for AHS

An Arcadia Historical Society member who has already given $1000, has pledged a second $1000... IF others in the Newark/Arcadia area give and/or pledge enough to pay off the museum building mortgage by June 1. The added $1000 would begin funding for the building's capital improvements.

"We are making good progress on one fund-raising campaign," reports AHS President Chris Davis. "The many gifts and pledges we have received so far pay more than half the $30,000 we need to pay off our mortgage. However, we hope this challenge will spur on the many people we know are planning to give or pledge to do so in the next month so our museum will be free and clear."

Gifts in memory of relatives or friends are also welcome. Some have already been received and will be appropriately memorialized.

Interested donors may mail checks or pledges to the AHS, Box 289, Newark, NY 14513. Those wishing to give stock are asked to telephone Treasurer Gill Lewis at 331-2819.

The building was formerly the Christian Science Church on High Street, Newark. It has already been used for several lectures and slide presentations. The church pews serve as the seating area. A small alcove in the front of the room serves as the podium area. The society is beginning to study how to change the building interior so that it can function both as a lecture hall and a museum.

Members of the community are urged to search out and give items of historical value to the AHS.

Questions concerning such items should be directed to Chris Davis at 331-4078.
