Garden Faire, Tearoom in Newark

Garden FaireSt. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newark will be holding its Seventh Annual Garden Faire and Tearoom on Saturday, May 30 from 10 to 3. The faire, which attacts expert and novice gardeners alike, has become a tradition in Newark.

In the outdoor courtyard perennials, annuals and herbs will all be for sale to fill those vacant spots in your garden. Floral arts and crafts will also be sold, and an ornamental shrub will be among several raffles. If you need assistance in choosing plants, workers at the faire are happy to advise you. This year, the Wayne County Cornell Cooperative Extension will have a table staffed by Master Gardeners to answer questions.

Inside St. Mark's you simply might want to relax and enjoy the company of friends in the elegant Tearoom. For a donation of $5 you will enjoy fine tea and an exceptional selection of sandwiches, scones and desserts.

Garden FaireNewark artist Bill Finewood will have a number of his works on display and another guest, classical guitarist Jason Cornwall, will play background music during part of the tea. Seating starts at 11 a.m.; admission will continue until 2 p.m.

Each year geraniums can be purchased throughout May and picked up on the day of the faire. Proceeds from this year's pre-sale will be donated to the Roosevelt Children's Center for tuition assistance. If you would like to order geraniums, contact the church office at 331-3610.

Gift certificates to the Faire and Tearoom are also available at the church office or at Gilbert's Jeweller's, 207 S. Main St, Newark. (A certificate for flowers or tea might be the perfect gift for Mother's Day.)
