blueprintsBig plans for
Kelley School
courtyard

Students at Norman R. Kelley School, Newark may one day walk across "the state" in a matter of minutes.

A group of students from Cornell University have worked with local committee members to create a special Courtyard Project. Local committee members are Bobbi Clifford, Chris Hasseler, Mary Daly, Rebecca Russell, Betsy Waugh, Kim Culver, Gary Brookins and Dawn Strait.

Thirty Kelley students, who are in grades 3, 4 and 5, presented ideas for the project.

The plan includes an outdoor classroom, Catskill Mountains, an Adirondack Climb, a glacier grid, Long Island beaches, a "solar circle, weather walk, and compass corner," Appalachian Uplands, Niagara Falls look-out and more. There will be a picnic area as well. Bodies of water will be Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Long Island Sound and Lake Champlain.

Volunteers from the community will be called upon when the construction starts.
