Over the past 24 years, Newark and SOFO Amusement Co. of Auburn, have brought the largest Firemen Field Days to Wayne County. This year is no exception. Beginning on Wednesday, May 13, lunches will be served at the Newark Firemen's Field starting at 11 a.m. At 6 p.m., rides will open. Thursday will be the same. One of the biggest nights will be Friday, May 15 - lunches again at 11 a.m. and the chicken barbecue begins at noon. You can order in advance for either lunches or the barbecue at 331-7918. Rides open again at 6 p.m. The fireworks show promises to be bigger and better than ever. Fireworks will be presented by Fog Valley Fireworks and will begin at 10 p.m. (rain date is Sat., same time). Saturday, May 16, is filled with events, beginning with a 10 a.m. opening. From noon until 4, SOFO will have a Ride Matinee for $8. At 4 p.m. there will be a raffle drawing for a new boy's and girl's bike (must be present to win). Saturday night's parade starts off at 6:30 p.m. Because of construction on the Clinton St. bridge, safety concerns have restructured the parade route. Firemen will line up on McDermott, Landon and Bryant, then step off onto North Main Street. The parade will proceed south to West Shore Boulevard and continue on to the Firemen's Field on Barker Parkway. Copyright © 1998 |
