Students recognized for stage work

Roll out the red carpet, rent the limo, and alert the paparazzi! It's time for the 1998 ELENBE Awards.

On Thursday, May 14, the Wayne County Performing Arts Awards (or ELENBE's, named after their sponsor, the Lyons National Bank or LNB) will be distributed to Wayne County high school students who excelled in their school's musical or drama productions. Being held at Newark High School, the dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and is immediately followed by the award ceremony at 7:30.

$5 tickets to the banquet are available at all participating high school principal's offices. The award ceremony is free and open to the public.

Don Alhart from WOKR-TV Channel 13, Rochester, is once again serving as Master of Ceremonies.

All participating schools will be presenting a short excerpt from their production. The event will be broadcast live on Time-Warner Cable channel 12 and will be repeated throughout the month.

Ten shows from high schools throughout Wayne County were nominated for "Best Production" and 90 students were nominated for Best Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. Awards will be presented to winners in each category as well as to runners-up. Judges were provided by Wayne County Council for the Arts. The final results are known only to Kevin Schoonover, Director of the Arts Council and Mickey Schultz at Gilbert's Jewelry in Newark, where the awards were produced.
