County salaries okayed Three of 15 supervisors voted against the 1998 salary increases for certain county officials and department heads. When the County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, there was no public comment for or against the pay raises for County Treasurer, County Clerk, Coroner, Commissioner of Social Services, County Administrator, County Attorney, Public Defender, Fire Coordinator, Planning Director, Director of Real Property Tax Services, Personnel Officer and Superintendent of Highways. While most increases were between 2 and 3 percent, County Administrator Dan Kane's raise is about 11 percent - up from $63,963 to $71,000. Before the meeting, Lyons Supervisor Jim Fabino said that he could not support such a high increase, even though Kane has taken on added responsibilties as Clerk of the Board, replacing the retiring Helen Maddock. Fabino's NO vote was echoed by supervisors Frank Guelli (Walworth) and Carm Pascarella (Rose). Both Guelli and Pascarella said they would not support the raises because supervisors do not have an evaluation process in place. But the three together carried a weighted vote of only 714 - not even close to the 2,000 majority needed. Voting YES for the pay hikes were supervisors: Dom Bartucca (Arcadia), Dave Spickerman (Butler), Louis DeLisio (Galen), Allyn Guerin (Huron), Nelson Warner (Macedon), Monica Deyo (Marion), Roy Herrmann (Ontario), Dave Lyon (Palmyra), Don Colvin (Savannah), Donna Chittenden (Sodus), Mary Ann Bliek (Williamson), and Marv Decker (Wolcott).
