Marion students help at Dining Center

Junior High ClassThe Junior High Class at the United Church recently traveled to Rochester for the second year in a row to help out at the Asbury Methodist Dining Center.

Included were: Samantha Webb, Lisa Colling, Megan DePoint, Daniel Halsted, Jeremey Hares, Tyler Hares, Shari McKay, Kari Miller, Jared Schutt and Amanda Tellier along with Youth Leaders Linda DePoint and Barb Wilson.

The dining center was started as a mission project at the Church, at first just providing soup and a sandwich to those who were hungry or in need of a small meal. The center has evolved to include job counseling, education and literacy referrals, hot meals and, in the future, will include computer training.

Also, in discovering many clients had to walk great distances to attend and couldn't get job interviews without transportation, "bicycle ministry" was born. They take old bikes and bike parts and give the fixed up models to the guests so they can improve their mobility.

The Youth Group attended the church service at Asbury and then joined a youth group from the Catholic Church in Macedon in serving the noontime meal at the dining center.
